Goodbye America. You will be missed.

Posted by defyphysics on March 21, 2011

I leave for DC tomorrow for staging, and then on Tuesday I leave for Ukraine.  I am packed and trying not to think about things I may have missed.  I know people survive without going to an American store their whole lives in Ukraine, but a small portion of my ignorance seems to believe their stores and shops are empty abysses with no utility to me.  If a Ukrainian can live without it, so can I.  Maybe.

I have said countless goodbyes the last month, and it doesn’t really get any easier.  However, the kind and inspirational words people have said to me have filled me to the brim with confidence I have never felt before.  I know I will do well, I know I will enjoy myself, and I know Peace Corps and I were practically made for each other.  It still does not make goodbyes any easier. I look forward to meeting future friends and being surrounded by the positive energy a gathering of Peace Corps Volunteers must emit.  It should keep me from missing home too much.

From here on, I hope this blog is full of my interesting experiences and life lessons.  I want nothing more than to share what may be my most exciting years with everyone who told me they wish they could do what I’m doing.  I hope you learn with me, laugh with me, and cry with me as I face a life altering adventure and chase my dreams.

  1. Hey Casey

This is Karen’s friend- we shared St. Patrick’s Day together. I just got this link from her, and I’m very impressed by the blog you created and look forward to your adventurous postings! Write back when you have a chance, be careful, and have fun.

    Your friend,

    • Hey Jose! Thanks! St. Patty’s was a blast. If you ever have any questions about what its like here shoot me an email or a comment on the blog. Part of my job is to tell people back home what it is like here, and its probably my favorite part of the job too. I can’te tell you how much different the culture is, but how alike we all are as human beings. It’s pretty surreal to experience. Hope this finds you well.
